On generalised and quadratic eigenvalue problems

Abstract

The generalised eigenvalue problem Tx = λVx and the quadratic eigenvalue problem Ay = ∊By + ∊²Cy are considered for self-adjoint linear operators on Hilbert spaces. Conditions are given for the reduction of these problems to the classical case Su = vu where S is compact and self-adjoint
