AS 1680—The New Australian Lighting Code

Abstract

This paper considers the new Australian Interior Lighting Code AS 1680. It considers the history of the development of the Code and discusses those influences which have caused the various changes from edition to edition. It discusses, in some detail, the Australian luminance limit system and the changes made to it in the new Code—changes due to developments in the technology of lighting. The paper also discusses apparent limitations of the Code—particularly with respect to natural lighting.
