1 All names of participants are pseudonyms to protect the privacy of the research participants.

2 Secondary art educators were chosen based on the assumption that secondary students, to some degree, have more choices in self-selection of coursework than elementary students.

3 The survey was composed of 27 questions and was disseminated via email, social media, and NAEA Secondary Division mailing lists. Anonymous respondents numbered 151, and only those who voluntarily provided contact information were considered for interviews. Six individuals were interviewed.
