Acknowledgments

I cannot express my gratitude enough to all the individuals who have helped to make the publication of this special issue possible. I benefited immensely from the experience of Audrey Kobayashi, Richard Aspinall, and Karl Zimmerer, who edited the three preceding special issues (Kobayashi Citation2009; Aspinall Citation2010; Zimmerer Citation2011). I thank all who submitted abstracts and manuscripts for consideration. I deeply appreciate all of the authors for their excellent contributions and their efforts in adhering to a tight time table and the length restriction we are required to impose. I am grateful to Editorial Board members and more than 100 reviewers who provided constructive and timely comments. I especially would like to thank Antoinette WinklerPrins for kindly handling the blind review process and making editorial decisions for my article (including the abstract). Peter Muller graciously provided helpful suggestions and invited Melinda Meade to contribute the book review essay that accompanies the special issue. Most important, I cannot imagine what editing this special issue would be like without the enormous help of Managing Editors Robin Maier and Miranda Lecea at the AAG Office. Their competent assistance throughout the entire editorial process has been critical in making this special issue possible.
