I benefited immensely from the experience of Audrey Kobayashi, Richard Aspinall, and Karl Zimmerer, who edited the three preceding special issues (Kobayashi 2009; Aspinall 2010; Zimmerer 2011). I thank all who submitted abstracts and manuscripts for consideration. I deeply appreciate all of the authors for their excellent contributions and their efforts in adhering to a tight time table and the length restriction we are required to impose.
