Biological fly control in deep‐pit poultry houses

Pages 209-212 | Received 11 May 1972, Published online: 08 Nov 2007

Synopsis

It was found that the accumulating manure in deep‐pit poultry houses became naturally colonised by the histerid Carcinops pumilio, a recognised predator of fly larvae. Although no serious fly infestations occurred where C. pumilio had become established, houses were at greatest risk when stocking was carried out at the beginning of the summer.
