An evaluation of food additives for broiler production

Pages 55-59 | Received 28 Feb 1977, Published online: 08 Nov 2007

Abstract

1. The values of the dietary additives, Eskalin, Flavomycin, Payzone and Zinc Bacitracin were separately assessed using 2 400 broilers.

2. Some additives produced statistically significant (P < 0.05) improvements in growth rate but apparent decreases in food consumed per unit weight gain were not significant.

3. Improvements in the gross margins (excluding the cost of the additives) were not statistically significant but were economically so in several cases.
