Facile Transesterification of Propantheline Bromide by Methanol

ABSTRACT

Spectroscopic evidence is provided for the ready transesterification of propantheline bromide by methanol to give methyl xanthanoate and N, N-diisopropyl-N-methylethanolamine bromide. The reaction was followed by GC-MS, 1H-and 13C-NMR spectral analysis to fully characterize the substrate and its products of transmethylation. The thermal degradation of propantheline bromide, under conditions of GC-MS analysis to yield a mixture of deisopropyl propantheline and demethyl propantheline, is discussed in terms of the mass fragmentation of these products.

RÉSUMÉ

On a observé par divers spectroscopie la facilité avec laquelle la transesterification du bromure de propanthéline procède dans le méthanol pour donner du méthyle xanthanoate et le bromure N,Ñ-diisopropyle-N-méthyléthanolamine. La réaction a été suivie par GC-SM, 1H et 13C RMN et l'analyse des spectres ont démontré l'identification du «substrat» ainsi que les produits de la trans-méthylation. La dégradation thermique du bromure de propanthéline par l'analyse de GC-SM produit une mélange de déisopropyle de propanthéline et de déméthyle de propanthéline. Ces transformations sont discutées selon la fragmentation de masse de ces produits.
