, &
Pages 90-100 | Published online: 25 Feb 2015

Abstract

The need to foster a global understanding of humanistic and ecological values and skills is increasingly becoming evident in early childhood education. This article closely examines some of the concepts of global education, namely “perspective consciousness, cross-cultural awareness, state-of-the-planet awareness, system connectedness, awareness and utilization of technology, and options for participation.” It discusses ways to teach children global skills, knowledge, and attitudes essential for developing an understanding of global citizenship—both at school and at home. The article highlights the benefits of global education to educators in general and also to members of the greater community, encouraging exposure to the concept at early stages of learning.
