LIQUID FUELS-FIRED POROUS BURNER

Abstract

This article presents an experimental study of evaporation and combustion in porous media without atomization of the liquid fuel (kerosene). The concept is called a liquid fuels-fired porous burner (LFPB). This concept is based on the evaporation of the liquid fuel in an upstream porous matrix, a subsequent mixing with the combustion air in a swirling chamber and the final combustion in a downstream porous matrix. The evaporation is maintained by the upstream heat transfer from the combustion zone or the downstream porous matrix to the evaporation zone in the upstream porous matrix. The major innovation of the study will be to show that the LFPB technology is able to replace conventional spray burners. Practical applications of this new combustion system are suggested.
