ABSTRACT
In the search for sustainable alternatives in the production of seedlings, the use of substrates from residues has been highlighted and fertilizations can be made to ensure adequate plant growth. Our study aimed to evaluate seedling production of papaya on substrates based on the carnauba residue under doses of humic substances. The experiment consisted of humic substances (HS): 0; 12.5; 25 and 50 g L−1 and substrates based on carnauba bagana (CB): 0% CB (soil); 50% CB + 50% soil and 100% CB, with four replicates. At 60 days after sowing, leaf area (FA) was evaluated; plant height (AP); stem diameter (DC); root length (CR); root volume (VR); dry matter of the aerial part (DMAP), dry matter of the root system (DMRS); and the Dickson Quality Score (DQI). By analyzing the papaya seedlings, a significant effect was observed for all variables studied in relation to the carnauba residue (CR) factor, different from the dose factor of humic substances (HS), which did not present significant difference for RV, DMAP, DMRS, and DQI. However, significant interaction between carnauba residue and humic substance was observed for LA, PH, SD, RL, RV, and DQI. The combination of 100% carnauba residue as a substrate and 12.5 g L−1 humic substances was more effectiveness for the production of papaya seedlings.
