1 In saying this, I do not mean to suggest that I will be providing an in-depth discussion of the work of Glaude, Baldwin, or any of the psychoanalytic theorists whose work I cite. Rather, I will be trying to present an overview of Glaude’s Begin Again while weaving into my discussion of the work of Glaude and Baldwin certain psychoanalytic concepts which, I believe, dovetail in important ways with their ideas.

2 I believe that Glaude uses the expression the “Black Freedom movement” to encompass, at the very least, the civil rights movement and the Black Power movement of the 1960s and 1970s.
