Abstract
Although the volume of research in teacher education has vastly increased, we still have very little dependable knowledge from which we can construct courses for the education of teachers. Different ways of organising school experience are being considered and the most helpful solutions, it is suggested, are those which improve communications between schools and training institutions. Reference is made to a survey of opinions about initial school experience of 193 postgraduate students. Students who were placed in co‐operative situations with others were more satisfied with their experiences than those placed individually in schools.
