Children's Early Book Behaviour

&
Pages 283-288 | Published online: 06 Jul 2006

ABSTRACT

Children who participated in a pilot study of book gifting when they were babies are followed‐up at age 3 and compared with a comparison group whose families received no book gift pack. Home‐based observations of book sharing reveal that, on all eight focus points significant for early literacy, intervention group children showed substantially greater activity and participation in book sharing. The value of early book gifting is explored.
