Abstract
The smectic liquid crystals can exhibit the sequence of phase transitions from the untilted SmA phase to the ferroelectric tilted SmC* phase and (or) to the different hexatic phases. Within the phenomenological model the properties of possible phase transitions are discussed. In particular, it is shown that in the transition region between the phases SmB*hex and SmI*, and between the phases SmA and SmI*, an incommensurate structure should exist.
