Detailed investigations on hydrogen bond liquid crystals formed between 4-nitrobenzaldehyde and alkyloxy benzoic acids

Abstract

Eight mesogenic liquid crystalline complexes are formed between 4-Nitrobenzaldehyde and p-n alkyloxy benzoic acids whose carbon number varies from pentyl to dodecyl. Chemical, optical and thermal investigations are carried out to all the mesogenic complexes in order to establish the intermolecular hydrogen bonding, mesophase formation, their transition temperatures, enthalpy values, order of transition, thermal equilibrium, thermal stability factor, behavior of mesophases with respect to temperature and specific heat capacity. All the investigations details the chemical, optical and thermal properties possessed by the mesogenic complexes which make them for the apt applicational viability.
