Abstract
Six of the basic types of ferroelectric displays that have been proposed and developed in differing degrees over the last 25 years are critically reviewed in terms of the fundamental requirements and characteristics of electronic displays. The advantages and disadvantages of ferroelectric displays are detailed and compared with other display technologies. Future trends and prospects for ferroelectric displays are discussed.
