Alignment techniques for l. c. d's based on smectic ferroelectric

Abstract

As example a process for the alignment of SmC suitable for large size displays is described.

Simple models for the molecular anchorage and the smectic layer structure are given.

The possible influence of the alignment coatings (through their anchorge energies, surface polarities, induced tilts) is introduced.
