Effect of crystallization and anneal on thin films of vinylidene fluoride/trifluorethylene (VR2/F3E) copolymers

Pages 57-65 | Received 16 Dec 1989, Published online: 10 Feb 2011

Abstract

The effect of time and temperature on substrate grown thin films of 75/25 copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and trifluoroethylene is explored. The coupling coefficient and acoustic quality are measured and related to the ferroelectric to paraelectric transition. It is found that substrate growth profoundly affects the ferroelectric properties, when compared to bulk grown materials: and that film piezoelectric properties can be maximized through proper use of growth conditions.
