Abstract
Strontium barium niobate (SBN) single crystals doped with terbium (Tb) are prepared and their dielectric, ferroelectric, pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties are examined. It is shown that Tb-doping can noticeably improve the stability, increase the pyroelectric coefficient and piezoelectric constant to some extent, decrease the transition temperature and increase the diffuseness of the phase transition. In addition to the dielectric relaxation along the polar axis, a low frequency dielectric relaxation is observed for the direction perpendicular to the polar axis.
