Abstract

Microstructural and compositional analyses of the low-temperature sintered Pb(Zr,Ti)O3-based ceramics have revealed an existence of continuous amorphous grain-boundary phase consisting of lead, copper and possibly iron oxides. This results and the measurements on the isothermal shrinkage suggest that the lowering of the sintering temperature is explained by an enhancement of the densification through the amorphous phase.
