Abstract

Full-faced single crystals of triglycine sulfate doped with both L-α-alanine and phosphoric-acid (LATGSP) have been grown from aqueous solutions with various concentrations of the dopants. The doping effects on the crystal growth, crystal form, domain structure and hysteresis loop were investigated. The crystal form shows polar 2 symmetry and bears both characteristics of L-α-alanine-doped TGS (LATGS) as well as phosphoric-acid-doped TGS (TGSP). The internal bias field E b is generated as LATGS, and the coercive field E c becomes larger as TGSP. Both E b and E c are not homogeneous in the crystal but depend on the growth sector. All growth sectors, excepting the (121) (and (121)) sector, are polarized to -b direction. Only the (121) (and (121)) sector is polarized to opposite direction in spite of the doping of chiral L-α-alanine molecule, and so the negative b-side of seed is not single-domain.
