A Geography of British Backpacker Tourists in South Africa

ABSTRACT

The United Kingdom is South Africa's most important overseas tourist-generating region. The tourism consumption choices of these tourists, both in terms of the activities they engage in and the spaces they seek out, have many impacts upon the South African space economy. The research reported here reflects on the impacts of British backpacker tourists visiting South Africa. Particular attention is drawn to their demographic profile, activity base and the spatial patterning of their travels in South Africa.
