Electrostatic Deposition of Ceramic Powders for Computer Memory Elements

Pages 58-62 | Received 16 Jan 1969, Published online: 09 May 2017

Summary

While investigating methods of producing a computer memory system analagous to the plated wire store, some experience was gained of the limitations of electrostatic powder deposition technology when conducting powders are used. An alternative approach is described that overcomes the difficulties which is specially suitable for coating fine wires. Problems of fluidizing powders of small particle size are discussed, and electrostatic deposition is critically compared with electrophoresis for this application.
