The Development of Chromium Based Electrodeposited Composite Coatings

&
Pages 41-46 | Received 30 Nov 1976, Published online: 08 May 2017

Summary

Electrodeposited composite coatings based on cobalt and nickel are now established coatings in the field of wear control. This paper reports an investigation to develop chromium as a matrix for composite coatings. Both hexavalent and trivalent electrolyte systems have been assessed, the first of these being unsuitable and the second, although forming good composite coatings with alumina contents up to 25% by volume, having severe coating thickness limitations.
