In this issue Prof Peter Leisner and his colleagues report on the well attended EAST Forum 2017, “Present research and development in European surface technology”, held on 7th of April 2017, at CCS Congress-Centrum, Stadtgarten, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. Some of the broad subject areas presented are summarised. Given that most of the presenters were research students presenting work-in-progress few of the talks will be publishable yet. However, it is felt it might be useful and informative to readers to give the titles, names and affiliations of the presenters – see below.
