In this issue Prof Peter Leisner and his colleagues report on the well attended EAST Forum 2017, “Present research and development in European surface technology”, held on 7th of April 2017, at CCS Congress-Centrum, Stadtgarten, Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. Some of the broad subject areas presented are summarised. Given that most of the presenters were research students presenting work-in-progress few of the talks will be publishable yet. However, it is felt it might be useful and informative to readers to give the titles, names and affiliations of the presenters – see below.

Electrochemical deposition of metal-organic precursor films for metal oxide/carbon hybrid electrode materials applied in electrochemical energy storage devices, Julia Linnemann, The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research, IWF Dresden, Germany

Ion-track technology for high-performance thin film supercapacitor electrodes, Petar Laušević, University of Belgrade, Serbia

Conformal metallic layers by electrochemical ALD for energy conversion applications, Fatima Haidar, University of Montpellier, France

Particle shape impact on the performance of Pt-based nano-catalysts for fuel cell reactions, Mila N. Krstajić Pajić, University of Belgrade, Serbia

Corrosion behaviours of Al-6013-T6 and Al-7075-T7351 alloy anodes for aluminium-air battery, Rasiha Nefise Mutlu, University of Cukurova Adana, Turkey

Electrodeposition of manganese layers from aqueous electrolytes, Mónica Fernández-Barcia, The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research, IFW, Dresden, Germany

Electrodeposition of Ni high P composite coatings containing nano and submicron ceramic particles, Donya Ahmadkhaniha, School of Engineering Jönköping University, Sweden

Iron-phosphorous alloys electrodeposited under direct current from glycine plating baths, Nataliia Kovalska, University of Vienna, Austria

Post-Treatment Process with Enhanced Technical Performance: Corrosion Protection for Electrical Contacts, Svetla Nineva, Umicore Galvanotechnik Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany

Surface modification and corrosion protection of zinc plated steel, Sanaz Hesamedini, Technical University of Ilmenau, Germany

Electrochemical characterisation of chromium deposition from trivalent solutions, Martin Leimbach, Technical University of Ilmenau, Germany

Copper electrodeposition from a water-containing choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvent, Priscila Valverde, University of Strathclyde Glasgow, United Kingdom

Influence of the additive alkoxylated ß-napthol on the electrodeposition of tin, Simona Zajkoska, University of Vienna, Austria

We look forward to featuring some of this research in future issues of Transactions.
