This report provides information and summary data for manuscripts submitted, acceptance rates and review times for the International Journal of Computer Mathematics (IJCM) from 1 January 2015 to 31 August 2016.

It is important to note that the data here refer to IJCM as it was back in 2015 when it published two sections: Section A on Computer Systems Theory and Section B on Computational Mathematics. As of Volume 93 (2016), IJCM now publishes papers solely relating to Computational Mathematics (previously Section B) while papers relating to the theory of computing and computer systems are directed to the sister journal, International Journal of Computer Mathematics: Computer Systems Theory (IJCM: CST) (http://www.tandfonline.com/tcom). Please refer to the following editorials for more information: IJCM opening editorial from Volume 93, Issue 1 (http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00207160.2016.1125206) and IJCM: CST opening editorial from Volume 1, Issue 1 (http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/23799927.2015.1119495).

For 2014 data, please see http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00207160.2015.1104475

All submissions to IJCM are processed via ScholarOne Manuscripts at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/commat.

Submissions received

The term original refers to first submissions, and therefore submissions of revised papers are not counted in Table . Original submissions also refer to both original article and review submissions.

Table 1. Number of original submissions to IJCM in 2015 and 2016 YTD (January–August).

It is worth mentioning that IJCM screens papers for originality using the Crossref Similarity Checktm software to screen papers for unoriginal material.

Review process and acceptance rate

All papers received are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor-in-Chief assigned. This initial review is crucial in allowing us to handle the volume of submissions received and ensures a quick decision for the author(s); enabling them to submit their work elsewhere should it not be appropriate for IJCM. Papers are then assigned to an Associate Editor (who will be a member of the Editorial Board) for further review. The Associate Editor may recommend a final decision, or select independent referees to assess the paper further. The Editors-in-Chiefs stress a very high quality level for acceptance of an article in IJCM, as shown in Table . Two very positive reports, indicating a significant degree of novelty and academic insight, are required for acceptance of a paper to be considered.

Table 2. Number of accept and reject decisions made in 2015 and 2016 (January–August).

For 2015 and 2016 (January–August), the median times from original submission to a first decision for all papers were 24 and 15 days, respectively. For papers assigned to an Editor for further review, the median times to a first decision was 70 days for papers submitted in 2015 and 72 days for papers submitted in 2016 (January–August).

The acceptance rate in 2015 was 15%; in 2016 (up to 31 August), the acceptance rate is 13%.

We are very grateful to the members of the editorial board and referees for the valuable editorial assistance they provide in the review process for IJCM. Further details of referees for 2015–2016 have been published in: Volume 93, Issue 12, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/00207160.2016.1249117
