Editors' Report

This report provides information and summary data for manuscripts submitted, acceptance rates and review times for the International Journal of Computer Mathematics (IJCM) from 1st January 2017 to the 31st July 2018. For 2016 data, please see https://tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00207160.2017.1391976

All submissions to IJCM are processed via ScholarOne Manuscripts at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/commat. The submission site is shared with International Journal of Computer Mathematics: Computer Systems Theory (IJCM: CST). Papers concerning the research and development in computer systems and the theory of computing should be submitted to IJCM: CST (see the Aims and Scope here), whereas IJCM encourages submissions that consider applications and analysis of computational mathematics.

Submissions received

Table 1 Number of original submissions to IJCM in 2017 and 2018 YTD (Jan-Jul)

The term original refers to first submissions with submissions of revised papers not counted in the table above. Original submission also refers to both original article and review manuscript types. IJCM continues to screen papers for originality using the CrossRef Similarity Check™ software to screen papers for unoriginal material.

Review process and acceptance rate

All papers received are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor-in-Chief assigned. This initial review is crucial in allowing us to handle the volume of submissions received and ensures a quick decision for the author(s); enabling them to submit their work elsewhere should it not be appropriate for IJCM. Papers are then assigned to an Associate Editor (who will be a member of the Editorial Board) for further review. The Associate Editor will select independent referees to assess the paper further.

The Editors-in-Chiefs stress a very high-quality level for acceptance of an article in IJCM, as shown in Table 2. Two very positive reports, indicating a significant degree of novelty and academic insight, are required for acceptance of a paper to be considered.

Table 2. Number of Accept and Reject decisions made in 2017 and 2018 (Jan–Jul)

IJCM continues to handle papers efficiently. For 2017 and 2018 YTD (Jan–Jul), the average time from original submission to a first decision for all papers was 60 and 56 days respectively.

We are very grateful to the members of the editorial board and referees for their valuable editorial assistance they provide in the review process. Further details of referees for 2017–2018 have been published in: https://doi.org/10.1080/00207160.2018.1526814
