Abstract
In this paper we propose an inverse wave propagation (IWP) approach based on the approximation of unknown fields of material parameters by means of local fields which have analytical solutions for the wave equations. We discuss the features of this approach in comparison with geotomographic imaging techniques. One dimensional analytical procedures are represented in details while the 3D case is outlined in a sketch. Geomechanics applications of the approach illuminate practical schemes of measurements and data processing.
