Abstract
In this paper, a new approach to design a robust controller is proposed for single area and multi-area power systems with communication delay. The proposed approach involves the application of generalised active disturbance rejection control (GADRC) technique, that uses substantial plant information to handle the problem caused by the consideration of communication delay in a power system. To authenticate the effectiveness of the proposed technique, it is applied on four different single area and multi-area power system models for load frequency control. The effect of parametric uncertainty and nonlinearities is also considered to validate efficacy of proposed scheme. An extensive comparative analysis is undertaken with existing controller design techniques to demonstrate superiority of proposed technique. It is observed that proposed scheme exhibits excellent capability of disturbance rejection, improved transient performance and good robustness in comparison to the existing control schemes.
