Abstract

China has limited water resources, especially in the northern region. Therefore, there has been great dependence on groundwater. As a result, ecological and geological problems related to excessive groundwater exploitation frequently occur. The south-to-north water diversion project is intended to overcome these difficulties. The paper gives an account of the project and focuses on Beijing; discussing the groundwater exploitation reduction strategy in relation to the water diversion project.
