Another heuristic derivation of Stirling's approximation to n!

Pages 151-154 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract

In this paper we present a derivation of Stirling's approximation to n!. Although there are many such derivations we exhibit one here which should appeal because it is simple in concept, straightforward, and can be presented to a wide spectrum of students because it assumes only basic mathematical techniques of calculus and convergence theory for sequences of real numbers.
