Transforming data in a first course in statistics

Abstract

A case is made for an early introduction of transformation of data in a first course in statistics. The topic is well received by students and helps pedagogically later in the course. Linear, squaring, and logarithmic transformations are emphasized. Impacts on subsequent parts of the course are discussed.
