Proposing a world-class manufacturing concept for the make-to-order sector

Pages 353-373 | Published online: 14 Nov 2010

A new comprehensive model based on an examination of a wealth of literature has been developed for make-to-order (MTO) companies. The model comprises 14 principles, which offer a way to look at the strengths of the company and identify areas for potential improvements. A case study was carried out to develop further the new proposed guidelines in an MTO company. This evidence led to some modifications to the model, but most of the guidelines were deemed relevant to the company. Further case studies are planned to validate the model further.
