1 Limit cases is used preferably in the French literature when referring to patients with borderline personality disorders, or those patients who are prone to have thought processes more on the psychotic spectrum. The term refers to patients whose thinking processes are on the border of (limit, in French) neurosis and psychosis, and so the term is more descriptive of the non-neurotic thinking process than the term borderline.
