NEW RECORDS OF TYPHLOCIROLANA SPECIES (CRUSTACEA: ISOPODA) FROM ISRAEL: ECOLOGICAL AND BIOGEOGRAPHICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Pages 47-53 | Received 16 Dec 1981, Published online: 30 Apr 2013

ABSTRACT

New distribution records in Israel are described for the aquatic subterranean isopod genus, Typhlocirolana. Habitat and chemical information are included. The distribution pattern of T. reichi suggests the existence of an ancient marine transgression through the Negev into the Jordan Rift Valley in the vicinity of the Dead Sea. Confirmatory evidence is provided.
