Central planning and market relations in socialist societies

This article examines some problems of central planning in eastern Europe, to see what lessons, if any, may be drawn for developing socialist societies. It is argued that the lessons are not simple ones that can be deduced from directly transposing eastern European problems and solutions to the quite different conditions of developing societies.
