Identifying and Measuring Dimensions of Project Complexity

Pages 248-253 | Published online: 06 Dec 2014

Abstract

An instrument was developed to measure complexity of an educational project. The instrument consisted of eleven items incorporating specific descriptors of complexity in a checklist format. Forty validated educational projects from the National Diffusion Network and Georgia’s validated programs were rated on all items. Factor analysis of the data indicated four factors. These were: Need for Teacher Creation of Project Elements, Need for Administrative Arrangements, Need for a New Analysis of Pupil Needs, and Need for Involvement of Several Grade Levels. Identification of these dimensions should help in the planning of implementation strategies.
