Abstract
In 1970 and 1980, The Journal of Educational Research published reviews of handwriting research from the previous decades (Askov, Otto, & Askov, 1970; Peck, Askov, & Fairchild, 1980), using the directions for research identified in an earlier article (Herrick & Okada, 1963). We now offer an update for the research conducted in the 1980s, with the addition of two categories of research efforts that have recently emerged. The use of computers has also become a tool in handwriting instruction and research, and more sophisticated research designs are being applied.
