Use of Incongruous Materials in Classroom Learning

Abstract

Pictorially incongruous illustrations accompanying a fifth-grade reading lesson were associated with decreased forgetting over a four-week interval for students whose reading achievement was below grade level, but not for other students. There were no effects due to textual incongruity.
