ABSTRACT
Forrest Merton Holly Jr dealt extensively with numerical modelling of unsteady flows and dispersion processes associated with the operation of hydropower and thermal power plants, and often with alluvial sediment transport by rivers. His expertise, energy, and genial personality led him to become President of the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research (IAHR) during 2000–2003. Holly’s last hydraulics project engaged his expertise and was done with the friendly aplomb for which he was well known. This forum paper portrays Holly engaged in his last project, which involved the practical application of numerical modelling of unsteady flow to and through a navigation dam.
