Thank you to Dr. Robert L. Sainburg

, PhD,

The editors, editorial board and publisher (Taylor & Francis Group, LLC) would like to express our sincere admiration and gratitude to Robert (Bob) L. Sainburg for his long and dedicated service to the Journal of Motor Behavior. He has served the Journal for over a decade, including as an Executive Editor and Editor-in-Chief. Bob was on the editorial team that managed the transition of the Journal of Motor Behavior from Heldref publications to Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. Under Bob's tenure as Editor-in-Chief the impact factor of the Journal has continued to rise steadily. Bob has been a strategic champion of the Journal in many avenues to maintain its relevance and impact. For example, he passionately promotes the Journal in conversations when he attends conferences and gives visiting seminars. He encourages the Executive Editors and other accomplished scholars in the field to submit their manuscripts for consideration by the Journal. Bob has also used the Journal as a vehicle to promote the careers of junior scientists. He then in turn engaged these emerging scholars in sustaining the long term health and productivity of the Journal by incorporating them into the review and editorial processes as their careers advanced. He clearly communicated journal expectations within the broad field of motor control, emphasizing a focus on mechanisms.

Bob is well known and respected as both a basic scientist and a clinical researcher. His early work was some of the first to incorporate advanced biomechanical analyses into the study of human movement control. His influential dynamic dominance hypothesis has transformed how we understand the laterality of motor control. Bob also has a degree in occupational therapy and advocates for cross disciplinary research between occupational therapy, occupational science, and movement science. Readers are referred to a special issue which Bob organized on this topic for the Journal of Motor Behavior, published in the first issue of 2017. Bob's outgoing nature makes him well suited for galvanizing colleagues from varying disciplines around common issues. The current Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board members strive to carry forward Bob's energetic support of the Journal of Motor Behavior and the important role that it plays in the fields of motor behavior, motor control, and movement neuroscience. We thank Bob for his tireless efforts in this arena.
