A redescription of Periclimenaeus tridentatus (Miers, 1884), based on specimens from Port Essington, Northern Territory, and a note on P. hecate (Nobili, 1904) (Crustacea: Decapoda: Pontoniinae), with a key for the preliminary identification of the tunicate-associated species of Periclimenaeus Borradaile.

Abstract

The pontoniine shrimp Periclimenaeus tridentatus (Miers, 1884) is redescribed and illustrated, based on specimens from Port Essington, Coburg Peninsula, Northern Territory, Australia. The specimens are associated with colonial tunicate hosts. Information on the tunicate hosts of Periclimenaeus species is reviewed and a key provided for their preliminary identification.
