Pages 17-32 | Published online: 17 Feb 2007

Summary

The material of Longipedia weberi Scott recently described by Itô (1973) from Amakusa, southern Japan, is now described as a new species under the name L. kikuchii sp. nov. The present new species is easily distinguishable from L. weberi in the abdominal ornamentation, the shape and setal lengths of the exopodite of leg 5 of both sexes, and the shape of rostrum, etc. L. weberi is also redescribed based upon the specimens of both sexes collected from Fukuoka. Abdominal ornamentations of both of the species were examined with a scanning electron microscope, and comparisons made between them. Previous records of L. weberi and its synonyms are re-examined and discussed.
