Abstract
The hypogeic mealybug genus Rhizoecus, in India, is discussed in relation to other Indian genera of the subfamily Rhizoecinae. Redescriptions are given of R. amorphophalli Betrem, found on some root crops, and of R. cynodontis Green, a lectotype of which is designated. A species from Kerala, causing extensive damage to coconut roots, is described as new as R. cocois.
