Abstract
The tribe Palachiini is revised and a key is provided for the genera and species (excluding the fossil Gummilumpus bouceki (Grissell). Three genera are included, namely Palachia Bouček, Propalachia Bouček and Neopalachia Bouček. In Palachia, two species-groups are recognized. The northern group includes one species from southeast Europe and nine species occurring in southeast Asia; of these P. elegans, P. farooqii, P. grisselli, P. macrops and P. robusta are described as new, whilst P. indica is synonymized with P. hayati. The southern group is restricted to Africa south of the Sahara, and includes species from which P. clavicornis, P. delvarei, P. gerhardi, P. maior, P. tanzanica, P. versicolor and P. watshami are described as new. In two species the previously unknown sex is also described. In Propalachia, with one species in Africa and two in southeast Asia, one of the latter species, Pr. borneana, is described as new. The third genus is the Neotropical Neopalachia, with two species, of which N. peruana is new. The only host record known, that of a mantid ootheca, is regarded as doubtful.
