Summary
The development, rationale, and evaluation of a management evaluation scale are described. The scale contains 27 items designed to assess one's opinions on seven topic areas (subscales) of management: communication, unit management, program management, regional management, management by objectives, personnel policies, and personnel evaluation. Each of the seven subscales contains between two and five items which are scored on a five-point Likert-type scale. To test for temporal stability and internal consistency the scale was administered twice to 19 employees (stratified by job classification) within the Department of Human Resources (DHR). High correlation coefficients were produced between time one and time two for each item. High alpha coefficients were also obtained for each of the subscales at time two. Thus, a short, stable, and internally consistent scale has been developed to measure seven specific management issues for social workers.
