Summary
400 subjects 8 to 11 years old were given a modification of the Weigl Color-Form Sorting Test in an attempt to assess the influence of age, mental age, intelligence, and vocabulary level on the ability to utilize various numbers and different kinds of criteria of classification. The age factor did not significantly affect performance in subtest 1, but age became an increasingly significant factor as subjects progressed from subtest 2 to subtest 3, the critical age being 11 years. Correlations between subtest scores and scores of mental age, intelligence, and vocabulary rose as subjects proceeded from subtest 1 to subtest 3.
