Summary
This study investigated Fiedler's Style/Situational Control Match theory in purely Islamic elementary schools. Findings supported Theodory's contention that the theory is not applicable in non-Western societies. Islam, as a variable, appears to deem the presence of relationship-oriented school leadership as necessary and task-oriented leadership as unnecessary. There was no relationship between the principal's style and teachers' satisfaction, thus contradicting a previous finding by Theodory in Lebanon's multireligious setting.
