Consistency of Edging on the Bender-Gestalt, Memory-for-Designs, and Draw-a-Person Tests

Summary

Edging refers to drawing figures along the top, bottom, or sides of a page. This drawing style is thought to be indicative of personality traits, yet it has not been shown that edging is consistent across tests. From an original 76 Ss, 28 were selected because they edged on at least one of three tests: the Bender-Gestalt, Memory-For-Designs, or Draw-A-Person. Only one S edged on all three tests, while two edged on two of the tests. Edging was not consistent and must therefore be considered suspect as a diagnostic indicator.
