Small Acceptance Number Plans for Use in Military Standard 105D

Abstract

MIL-STD-105D has the following major deficiency for small acceptance number sampling plans. There is a gap in the logical sequence of plans because 105D does not have a provision for fractional acceptance numbers. A solution to this problem is developed using chain sampling procedures. The solution results in an estimated 25 percent improvement in the quality of product shipped in one case, and a 40 percent reduction in sample size for approximately the same quality of product shipped in a second case.
